The H-B-R is always scheduled for the first Saturday in May each year. This year that is May 5, 2012.
Valley Haven School, located in Valley, Alabama,
1 1/2 miles off I-85, Exit 77, is a school for infants and toddlers and adults with
intellectual and developmental disabilities. Started 50 years ago by volunteers,
the school is now professionally staffed and currently offers skilled training to
120 consumers ranging in age from 3 months to 70 years. To meet operating expenses
and match state and federal grants, local monies of at least $100,000.00 must
be raised annually. These local monies, in some situations, are provided as
stipends from city and/or county governing bodies and the United Fund, but the
primary source of local funds is the community at large. This is primarily through
Hike/Bike/Run for Valley Haven, our annual fund drive.
Hike-Bike-Run consists of a 1 mile, 5K, or 10.5K run, a
5 mile walk, and either a 10 or 20 mile bike ride; a horse ride, a
motorcycle ride, a 5 mile bike ride for children, or the Trike Trek for preschoolers.
Each participant in Hike-Bike-Run pays a registration fee or gets pledges for
their participation. All donations are tax deductible.
To fill out a form and return it to Valley Haven School and be a participant in this year's Hike-Bike-Run, just click here, print out the pledge page and, if needed, the Run form in the format you prefer and return it to the address indicated.
We are a tax exempt 501 (C) 3 organization.
This one-day project involves over 400 participants and 3,000 pledging sponsors. It generates over $100,000.00 in pledges to support the work of the school. We are very proud of this project and especially proud of our community for uniting so strongly in this effort. Although pledges from this project have increased over the years, we are aware that we must increase our efforts so that the schoolman not only continue its works, but expand its capabilities in order to benefit the more than 30 other children and adults who are presently on the waiting list. We are confident that the people of our community can do whatever is necessary. Our job with Hike/Bike/Run is to focus attention on the needs of Valley Haven School and to organize an event that everyone will want to support.
Our permanent date for Hike/Bike/Run is the first Saturday
in May : May 5, 2012 is the next
